Cremation Fact: Many of the direct cremation service providers in the Tampa Bay area do not own their own crematory. Owning the crematory gives the provider control over the process and gives consumers peace of mind. Understanding the importance of owning their own crematory, some providers claim to have their own crematory in order to compete with providers that actually do.
Cremation Myth: You have to have pre-arrangements completed in order to use a direct cremation company.
Cremation Fact: You do not need to have pre-arrangements completed in order to use any funeral service provider. This tactic is used by many providers (pre-need sales teams) because they have a higher price for pre-planning than they do an immediate need. Be sure to confirm the price of a pre-planned direct cremation and immediate need direct cremation.
Cremation Myth: You have to buy a permanent urn for the cremains of your loved one.
Cremation Fact: You do not have to buy a permanent urn for the cremains of your loved one. If you are being told this, this is absolutely not true.
Cremation Myth: You have to buy a cremation casket in order to cremate your loved one.
Cremation Fact: You do not need to buy a cremation casket in order to have your loved one cremated. Direct cremation providers will provide an alternative container, usually included in advertised price. Be careful and confirm that the alternative container is included in the price before choosing a cremation provider as many have it as an add on. If you desire, you can choose an upgraded casket for your loved one.
Cremation Myth: Direct cremation providers have to pass the additional crematory expenses on to the family being served.
Cremation Fact: Crematories typically charge extra for expedited cremations (avg. $150), witness cremations (avg. $200), and when someone weighs over 300 lbs (avg. $200). Any other service that a cremation company may be trying to charge you are made up charges.
